Karla Campos, Founder of Social Media Sass and the Mompreneur Center, will be speaking at WordCamp Bristol on May 19th, 2019 at 12:15 PM. Karla will be discussing the WordPress Gutenberg editor.
On December 6, 2018, WordPress updated the platform with a brand new editor called Gutenberg. The editor was named after Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of a printing press with movable type. The name is perfect for the new editor because it uses movable blocks. Gutenberg is not difficult to use, you just have to learn where everything is located. Join Karla Campos at WordCamp Bristol, she will show you how to navigate the Gutenberg editor. If you can't make the event, make sure to follow along on social media using the hashtag #WCBRS for all things WordPress and WordCamp Bristol. There's nothing that I enjoy more than working on the beach. I love getting lost. I have wanderlust. I love discovering new beach restaurants and visiting the one's I already love. Many times they have a band playing and it just sets the perfect mood. There is always something to see and do in between working. You will meet tons of strangers who have many stories to tell. These strangers interrupt your work, but it is all part of the experience. On this particular trip, a couple was skinny-dipping. They were drunk and in love. They were both very attractive. Prior to getting topless, the woman was wearing a white top and had a great tan. She had a pretty big chest, which the guy kept fondling. I was sitting at one of the beachside tables with a front row seat of the action. I turned away to continue working and let the skinny-dippers have their privacy, even though they were in public and in plain sight. There were several couples on dates in the same outdoor eating area. Many of these couples started complaining to the restaurant staff because they were offended by the skinny-dipping couple. I made eye contact with one of the offended couples and this caused them to start talking to me. I was fully dressed and not in the bathing suit pictured above at the restaurant. I think if I was in the bathing suit, the couple would have put me in the offensive beach folks category. I got dressed prior to going to the restaurant. No shirt, no service. It turns out, the offended couple was on their second Tinder date. They were meeting friends at the restaurant and weren't exactly on a romantic date. They invited me to their table and they wouldn't take my polite "no's" rejecting their offer to sit with them. After a few drinks, their friends arrived. By this time everyone was extra happy, if you know what I mean. They wanted to crash the wedding happening at the large tiki reception area next door. The tiki reception area was part of the restaurant, it was full with about 75-80 people, and you could see everything happening since it had no walls. My new friends were convinced they were invited to the wedding because they saw one of the wedding attendees waving in their direction. At some point while what I described above happened, the skinny-dipping couple ran by laughing and yelling. The skinny-dipping guy picked up the skinny-dipping girl and put her on his shoulder. She was bouncing all over the place and he looked unsteady running, but they made it out of the restaurant and faded across the street. Some couples cheered as the skinny-dipping couple exited the building. By that time, I really wanted to finish my work and go home. I paid my bill and left. My new friends weren't happy that I wasn't heading to the wedding with them, but they soon forgot thanks to all the drinks they consumed and made their way over to party. Where are you working from today? I hope you are out there getting lost, meeting new people, and discovering new places. Maybe we'll meet each other one day. Happy wanderlusting! What goals are you setting today? I have been doing tons of decluttering since January. It has been a zen experience. I know it sounds odd, but I found lots of enjoyment in getting rid of bags of kids clothing. During the decluttering, I was excited to wake up each morning and reach my goal of having only clothes that fit hanging in the kids' closets. I could have paid someone to do this cleaning, but doing it myself felt good. It gave me a feeling of quiet and peace. I haven't felt that quiet and peace in a long time. I turned off my phone and refused to let anyone interrupt me during decluttering time. The experience gave me a new perspective on goal setting, interruptions, and getting things done. I thought about the things I wanted to achieve this year and the places I wanted to visit. It felt good shutting the world out. What goals are you setting? What are you doing to achieve them?
